Message from Dr. Gardner

Welcome to my website. Exciting things are happening in operations management at the University of Indianapolis. my team and I have received a $50,000 grant from the Institute for Emerging Careers (IEC) funded by the Lilly Endowment at the University of Indianapolis. The purpose of this grant is to develop state of the art curriculum in supply chain management and logistics, to develop internships with companies in the Indianapolis metropolitan area for students studying supply chain management, to support the faculty and student research necessary to sustain a state of the art curriculum. In conjunction with this project, we are developing partnerships with professional societies.

This grant positions the University of Indianapolis to produce versatile, flexible managers with a broad knowledge base who can perform multiple functions and interact with people in with a wide range of skill sets and responsibilities. Our small class sizes facilitate the development of problem solvers, clear communicators, critical thinkers, and leaders that are critical to sustaining competitive advantages in the real world. Our roots as a liberal arts institution place us in the market niche of producing generalists who are able to adapt to a changing business environment and to work well in a variety of jobs up and down the supply chain. Small universities are better places to develop leaders than large ones because of the individualized attention and because there are more leadership opportunities per capita. We can produce the high quality achieved through rigorous courses and high standards while providing the individual attention and mentoring that results in a high success rate.
